Mission

CEFIP is a Center for Public Economics Studies aimed at promoting scientific and applied research in the field of public economics, based on the latest methods of economic research. Our primary mission is to develop cutting-edge research lines in the field of public economics.

Our team is committed to the constant exploration of cutting-edge methodologies and tools in data science to enrich our analyses, thus contributing to innovative academic and applied projects.

Our history

CEFIP was established in August 1993, as part of the agreement between the Faculty of Economics (FCE) of the National University of La Plata (UNLP), the Ministry of Economy of the Buenos Aires Province, and the Federal Investment Council (CFI).

Initially known as the Horacio Pereyra Research Institute, the centre served as a key complement to the Public Finance Master’s program (FCE-UNLP), providing fertile ground for the development of cutting-edge research in local public finance issues.

Currently, CEFIP is part of the Economic Research Institute (IIE-FCE-UNLP) and aims to promote quantitative analysis and policy evaluation. In line with the field’s evolution, the centre examines topics related to public economics broadly, with a particular focus on tax issues, fiscal federalism, and social insurance.
